Background: Dyslipidemia, hypertension, and type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (type 2-DM) have been identified as early predictors of cardiovascular disease. Hypertension is a common disease in patients with type 2-DM. Dyslipidemia is a major risk factor for atherosclerosis. Type 2-DM and hypertension are risk factors for atherosclerotic lesions associated with dyslipidemia. Hypertension is associated with blood lipid disorders in many ways and contributes to the overall risk of cardiovascular disease. This study aimed to determine the correlation between hypertension and lipid profile in patients with type 2-DM at Pirngadi hospital, Medan, North Sumatera. Subjects and Method: This was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design conducted at endocrinology polyclinic Pirngadi Hospital, Medan, North Sumatera, from December 2017 to January 2018. A sample of 15 hypertension patients was selected for this study. The dependent variable was lipid profile. The independent variables were systolic and diastolic blood pressures. Lipid profile was measured by blood serum examination. The data were analyzed by Pearson correlation. Results: Systolic blood pressure (SBP) increased with total cholesterol level (r= 0.33; p=0.233), LDL level (r= 0.25; p=0.377), HDL level (r= 0.40; p=0.137). Systolic blood pressure was not associated with triglyceride level (r= 0.02; p=0.936). Diastolic blood pressure increased with total cholesterol level (r= 0.40; p=0.143), LDL level (r= 0.15; p= 0.589), HDL level (r=0.27; p= 0.326), and triglyceride level (r= 0.37; p= 0.174). Conclusion: This study concludes that there is a relationship between hypertension and lipid profile in patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, but not statistically significant. There is a need to conduct a further study with a larger sample. Keywords: type 2 diabetes mellitus, blood pressure, lipid profil

Background: Obesity is a condition that is associated with having an excess of body fat, defined by genetic and environmental factors that are difficult to control when dieting.Obesity may cause serious diseases such as dyslipidemia, stroke, and coronary heart disease. Changes in lipid profile in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (type 2 DM) include increased total cholesterol, low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and triglyceride, and decreased levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). This study aimed to determine the correlation between obesity and lipid profile in patients with type 2 DM. Subjects and Method: This was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted at the Endocrinology and Metabolic Polyclinic, Pirngadi Hospital, Medan, North Sumatera, from December to January 2018. A sample of 15 type 2 DM patients with obesity was selected for this study. The independent variable was obesity. The dependent variable was lipid profile which included total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglyceride. Obesity was measured in body mass index (kg body weight/ m2 body height). Lipid profile was measured by blood serum examination. The data were analyzed by Pearson correlation. Results: Obesity was positively correlated with blood glucose level (r= 0.46; p= 0.082), and it was marginally significant. Obesity was positively correlated with total cholesterol (r= 0.21; p= 0.455), and LDL (r= 0.34; p=0.222), but statistically non-significant. Obesity was negatively correlated with HDL (r= -0.07; p= 0.798) and triglyceride (r=-0.03; p=0.930), but statistically non-significant. Conclusion: Obesity positively correlates with blood glucose level but its correlation with lipid profile is not reliable

Background: Diabetes Mellitus (type 2 DM) is now ranked first in health problems. The Diabetes Control and Complication Trial (DCCT) study showed that lowering HbA1c rates may delay or prevent chronic complications. One of the risk factors for CHD in type 2 DM is dyslipidemia, i.e lipid metabolism disorders in the form of elevated total cholesterol, triglyceride (TG), low-density lipoprotein (LDL), and decreased levels of high-density lipoprotein (HDL). Description of dyslipidemia in type 2 DM most frequently found is an increase in TG levels and decreased HDL levels. Research showed hyperglycemic conditions have an effect on the condition of blood vessels. This study aimed to determine the correlation between HBA1C and lipid profile in patients with type 2 DM. Subjects and Method: This was an analytic observational study with a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted at the Endocrinology and Metabolic polyclinic Pirngadi Hospital, Medan, North Sumatera, from January to February 2018. A total sample of 10 type 2 diabetes mellitus was selected for this study. The independent variables were lipid profile including total cholesterol, high density lipoprotein (HDL), low density lipoprotein (LDL), and trygliceride. The dependent variable was HbA1c level. Lipid profile was measured by blood serum examination. The data of type 2 diabetes mellitus were taken from medical record. HbA1c level was measured by blood examination. The data were analyzed by Pearson correlation. Results: HbA1c was positively correlated with blood sugar levels and was statistically significant (r= 0.12; p= 0.005). HbA1c correlated weakly and was statistically insignificant with total cholesterol (r= 0.14, p= 0.702), LDL (r= 0.15; p= 0.683), HDL (r= 0.04; p= 0.922), and triglycerides (r= 0.06; p= 0.860). Conclusion: HbA1c correlates with blood sugar levels but does not show correlation with lipid profiles
